Thought Tracking - Gwendolen and Jack

Weather - Inside gets nervous
: oh how i do like how he is quite nervous, quick ask me!

Before met
: oh how i do love you, and your name just gives me butterfly's.

Ernest - so you do love me
: i knew she would except my love!

You would love me if my name were not Ernest
: Oh crap! its my name that makes her love me!

Gives me vibrations
: oh butterfly's!

Jack?
: Maybe if I use my own name it will get her to flare up to my real name.

You know what I have to say to you
: Why is she asking if we both love each other? I'm so lost.

You haven't asked me!
: Its quite sweet how he doesn't realize hes such a hopeless romantic, but i love him all the same.

My Insanity Review and analysis by the director: Simeon Beneti

In the play Insanity written by Simeon Beneti there is the theme of a girl drowning in her own insanity, this gives many examples of insanity which were used from two types of insanity displays put into German and Japanese expressionism.
In the piece ‘Insanity’ there is a girl an due to the lighting and background we can tell she is in an asylum, the rest of the piece then shows us her types of insanity by her using Japanese expressionism and by the other actors conveying her in her insanity inside of her cell by doing many strange and mentally disturbing things.
There is the main character which is the female which is the insane one but then as you go inside her head you see the other characters which seem like demons, or maybe something dragging her down due to the way they moan and the say they look in the lighting. This gives in my mind a really good idea of where she was and what was going on in her head.
The play makes me feel very into what’s going on and it makes me think many different things at one time, such as is it in her mind or is there an actual force bringing her into her own insanity? Also this play kind of scares me at points where the other characters moan which I think is such a good thing due to its only scary due to the sound effects and lighting. Although in some areas of the moaning and the marching around I didn’t quite understand the part due to it just looking a bit messy in my mind i would have just cut it out and I would have just out her in the centre without any of them running around or I would have put them dragging her back from behind... maybe use some different techniques of movement.
The main theme is the woman in the cell drowning in her insanity but the other themes make the play interesting because you’re wondering what’s actually going on, whether it’s real or whether it’s all in her mind.
I think that the main character completed the main objective which was to draw in the watchers and too make them think about what is actually going on, her motivation was an insane woman and with the Japanese Boito this all became very believable. The minor characters also convey the theme of insanity very well by moaning but also mostly done by the speed up effects and the lighting.
The main character was a very good actor and did a very good job without the piece, considering such a hard task due to the physical requirements I thought that she did well to keep up the expressions of insanity and made the watchers question what is going on. Also the minor roles such as the demons were also very realistic and showed the insanity that is either in her head or some kind of force is pulling her down. Their voices matched the roles and the expression they were trying to convey and they were all incredibly focused. All of their movements were precise and helped the expression and the theme of insanity.
The lighting and the sound effects just made the play so much more real, such as the lighting onto the bars made it look like a real asylum and the lighting and effects on the demons made them so much realer and scarier.
Altogether I think this play is interesting and difficult to understand just because It has so many roads to choose to explain the actual story but I love the play and it is incredibly smart and Insane.

Diary Entry 1

1. In the first extract I like how they all moved in unison and then how he took of his mask and then how the one guy took off his mask and started moving away from the rest but then at some points the reconnected and re-joined the rest of the clowns, also how he got angry :D In the second I like the music and how his mode changed and how then he reacted with the women, and the third I loved the use of levels and how they reacted with his movement and also how they were in unison.
2. They used tempo to organise they’re movement and then in the 2nd extract they used movement and music to choreograph the movement and time in which the women needed to come in and in the 3rd one they used movement and unison and chorus to control the movement of them copying the disabled guy in the front.
3. I think the one that really spoke to me about facial movement and express is love of the music and what he was doing and how the music excited him.
